Autumn Arrives with Voyage Maison - How to Change with the Season
As the seasons change, we all, subconsciously or not, begin to make changes. Whether your lunch menu shifts from salad to soup, your footwear swaps out sandals for boots, or your tumble dryer sees more use than the washing line, we automatically begin to prepare for the cooler, and darker months ahead. Whilst we are forced into many of these adaptations, it can also be good for our spirits and joie-de-vivre to intentionally prepare and to take joy in doing so. A particularly enjoyable way of readying oneself for autumn is to make sure our homes reflect the remarkable and often beautiful shifts taking place in nature.
Layering Up
It goes without saying, especially if you live in the UK, that our warmest days of the year are behind us. It will not be too long before we are donning thick socks, knitted jumpers and thermals. A blanket can be a tremendously sensible and stylish way of bringing a little extra warmth to your bed, armchair or sofa.

Palette Shifts
As green turns to gold and blue turns to grey, the natural colour palette shifts dramatically as we venture into September and beyond. Whilst totally redecorating to reflect the seasons is not something many of us will want to do, we might want to make small adaptations that faithfully mirror what’s going on outside. Adding a couple of autumnally appropriate cushions is an effective and easy way to change a room’s tone. Look for cushions with darker tones, with splashes of orange, gold, purple and red.
Fabric Choices
Whilst summer fabric projects might lean heavily on linen and cotton, autumnal fabric projects are best suited to velvet, wool and silk. As the frosts set in and the leaves fall, their ability to make a space warm and cosy is invaluable. They not only feel good, but velvet and silk are best lit by the warm glow of a fire, the light beautifully interacting with the texture of the materials.
