General Wallpaper Information

What is wide width wallpaper?

Traditionally, British wallpaper had a standard width of about 50cm. However, in recent years, wallpaper widths have been gradually increasing. A Voyage Maison wide-width wallpaper might be as much as 140cm in width; that’s nearly three times wider than standard wallpaper.

Why do we like wide-width wallpaper so much?

  1. With a bigger surface area, we can make our wallpaper designs more elaborate - there is just more space to be creative! This means we don’t have to restrain our amazing artists too much, which, in our experience, is always a good thing!
  2. When hung, there are fewer joints, which looks a lot more elegant and visually impressive - it becomes more of a mural.
  3. Fewer joints also mean less work for you (or your chosen wallpaper hanger) with fewer cut pieces of wallpaper to hang!

What is the benefit of the paper being digitally printed?

We think digitally printed wallpaper is wonderful. Our printers accurately recreate the colours our artists have chosen and produce vibrant wallpaper of an exceptionally high standard. This attention to detail is vitally important to our artistic ethos.

What do you mean when you say heavy-weight, non-woven paper?

It’s really a statement of quality! Heavy-weight indicates thickness, and when it comes to paper, thick is King! By non-woven, we mean that the paper is made from a mix of synthetic and natural fibres. This mix means the paper doesn’t absorb too much moisture, meaning it doesn’t disintegrate when the paste is applied. Whilst we can’t explain the science, we can tell you it makes hanging wallpaper a much easier process.

How does the wallpaper come?

Once you’ve told us how many metres you need and placed your order, you receive one big roll of wallpaper, allowing you to cut it into panels for hanging.

How do I figure out how many metres of wallpaper I need?

We’ve created a handy guide to help you calculate how many metres of wallpaper you need. You can then enter your measurements in our calculator that is found on every wallpaper product page.

Should I order extra wallpaper?

Our wallpaper calculator takes into consideration multiple factors, this also ensures you will have the exact amount of wallpaper you need plus an extra 10% to cover any wastage.

How to Hang Wallpaper

Wallpapering Difficult Areas

How can I wallpaper my ceiling?

Wallpapering your ceiling follows the same process as walls but requires extra care due to the hazards of working overhead - we always recommend getting assistance to support the wallpaper while hanging it. Use a platform like a board between ladders for a stable base, and start at a window and work lengthways across the ceiling.

How can I wallpaper around a window?

Hang a strip of wallpaper over the window and mark the corners lightly Then, cut horizontally to the marks for a flap to smooth onto the window recess. Trim for neatness and continue wallpapering around the window, keeping pattern matching in mind.

How can I wallpaper around corners?

We recommend leaving a 2.5cm overlap to avoid gaps then measure, cut and hang a strip with overlap. Use a plumb line for the adjacent wall and overlap the strip. You can slice through both layers for a perfect seam.

Can I wallpaper a feature wall?

Feature walls are great for drawing in all of the attention, so you want to make sure that they're as perfect as can be. Start from a corner or the middle, depending on pattern size and use a levelling tool for vertical alignment. Paint the edges of the wall for a seamless colour blend if needed.

How can I wallpaper around sockets & switches?

Firstly, turn off electricity and remove covers. Hang your wallpaper over the area and cut an 'X' shape around the socket or switch, fold back flaps and trim excess. Reattach covers after drying.

Can I wallpaper stairs?

Of course - prepare your stairs by cleaning thoroughly and measure the rise dimensions. Create cardboard templates and cut the wallpaper strips accordingly. Apply the strips following the same method as for walls.

How can I wallpaper behind a radiator?

Firstly, clean behind the radiator and apply paste evenly. Hang your wallpaper, mark where the bracket for the radiator sits and cut accordingly. Use a roller to push the wallpaper behind the radiator and smooth out.

What is the secret to pattern matching wallpaper?

Patterned wallpaper can be one of the most difficult things to get right, we we've curated out wallpaper to include borders which guide you toward perfect pattern matching. Just use out wallpaper hanging guide for a detailed tutorial on hanging wallpaper.
